My name is Stephen. I live in McAlester, Oklahoma with 5 of my 6 kids and wife. I work at the hospital here as a nurse anesthetist. A lot of my interests (cycling, camping, firearms) have taken a back seat to family duties, but they still pop up.
My interest in mechanical calculators began about 10 years ago with I learned about the Fire Control Computer of early battleships. Somewhat naively I couldn’t believe that mechanical devices could do what it did. That led me to the Curta and the rabbit hole that is mechanical calculators.
Much to my wife’s dismay my collection continues to grow; always needing one more device. Researching and searching for devices is half the fun. So now I try to get a youtube video out every few weeks. (One of more of my girls sure tries to weasle their way into my videos; an interest that I’m sure won’t last untill their teenage years.) I’m always intimidated by the great collections and websites so many members have. Maybe someday I’ll catch up. Until that day I’ll continue to be impressed with a field of technology I didn’t even know existed 10 years ago.
