Faszinierende Feinwerkstechnik

- geb. 13.10.1941 in Tübingen,
- Chefredakteur i.R.
- verantwortlicher Redakteur der Mitgliederzeitschrift HBw bis 31.12.2011, erste Ausgabe No. 61, April 2002.
- Chefkorrespondent der Fachzeitschrift "material + technik möbel" i.R.

Welcome to My New Homepage

You will find a lot of information about my collection "historical typewriters" and me.

Fascinating Precision Engineering

It is my job as a journalist to present complex technology to everybody. The more filigree technology is, the more fascinating it is to me.

Certainly buying a mechanic typewriter of the brand "Torpedo" in 1961 initiated somehow curiousity regarding precision engineering. But whether that typewriter was decisive for my professional choice I can’t say with certainty. I have been able to concentrate on the preservation of historical typewriters since my retirement in 2008. This means for me more restlessness than ever before. One focus is on different stroke-systems, the other one on different typewriter-models, as made by AEG in Berlin and Erfurt, thereafter AEG subsidiary Olympia and after 1945 produced by GDR succeeding companies VEB Erfurt (only in 1951) and VEB Optima. As an independent expert I inform about age and value of historical typewriters. My activities concentrate on presentations and exhibitions about typewriters worldwide. Visitors to Ludwigsburg, Germany are most welcome.

My curriculum vitae

After studying mechanical engineering, I first worked as a design engineer in tooling machines. Then I was working as the editor-in-chief for two international professional magazines specialized in production technology. After retiring I used to be the responsible editor of the journal "Historical Office World" (Historische Bürowelt), edited by Internationales Forum Historische Bürowelt (IFHB), Essen.

At present I am working as a freelance professional journalist as well as a curator and a lecturer in this special field ("Rise and Fall of Mechanical Typewriters" and "How has the @ got on the PC-keyboard"). My collection is unique and meanwhile contains 96 mechanical typewriters. All of them have been restored by professionals for office machines and will be preserved for posterity as witness of earlier days.

Writing and publishing the book "Schl@gfertige Typen" in the year 2015.
